Beef Mechado

Nothing beats a family recipe, passed on for generations. Yes it does look like your average beef stew but my heart beats for this and has been my favorite Filipino dish since I can remember. When cooked right (or perfectly) the meat should be tender, the potatoes shouldn’t be easily mashed, and the soup itself should neither be too liquid that the flavor disappears nor too thick that you can no longer mix the soup with rice. You can make the soup’s thickness according to your preference.

What’s in it:

  • Medium-sized Potatoes
  • Beef Chunks (Don’t forget to check that there’s enough fat!)
  • 1-2 c. Tomato Sauce
  • 1/4 c. Soy Sauce
  • 3-4 Garlic Cloves
  • Medium-sized Onion
  • 1 c. Water
  • Black peppercorn
  • Salt
