American Horror Story Seasons 1-4 Overview

I started watching this series thinking it wouldn’t be scary but for some reason since Murder House all the way to Freak Show I have been caught up and actually managed to catch up with the series in less than a month and now awaiting for Hotel. If you haven’t seen it or heard about it, you can read this post to learn more but not necessarily get spoiled. My favorite season so far is Coven which I think could have been its own series followed by Asylum except for the Alien thingy.

Murder House

A family moves from Boston to LA after Vivien’s miscarriage and Ben’s infidelity hoping to move on and improve their situation. However, whatever hope of a better life was soon destroyed as they encounter more and more of the former home owners that have long passed and whose spirits cannot leave the property.

The Briarcliff Mental Institution is run by nuns with the help of doctors treats and houses the criminally insane. Some patients like Lana Winters, the journalist, and Kit Walker who was accused to be the serial killer were unjustly institutionalized. The patients are subject to both scientific experiments and supernatural activities and even alien abductions.

This season is filled with witchcraft, voodoo, and racism which revolves around the survival of the descendants of the Salem witch trial survivors. Thanks to the all-girls boarding school that opened in New Orleans, the girls are kept safe from the dangers they may face outside. Fiona Goode, the Supreme, comes back to ensure the safety of her Coven alongside the safety of her agenda whilst her daughter continues to teach at the school. Other unpleasant happenings in New Orleans on the hands of socialite serial killer Delphine LaLaurie and the witches’ rival Marie Laveau, the voodoo queen.

Freak Show

Outcasts since birth or by the hands of others. Elsa Mars’ Cabinet of Curiosities provides a home for her “monsters” who must perform in order to survive. What resides in the town of Jupiter are crazed killers whose eyes are set on the members of the Freak Show that is already struggling when television overwhelms their own popularity with the crowd.

What I like about the series is that the seasons are differentiated therefore getting tired of the same theme is impossible. Their storylines are variated and have its own dominating theme. Questionnable characters and personas that appear to be good and yet so evil. I think each season is favored according to viewership groups if I am correct in understanding that Murder House and Freak Show are more family-type groups, Asylum is more for a general public whereas Coven would most likely appeal to teenagers who are interested in TVD and PLL for example. It’s a brief analysis but you catch my drift.

Some comments on Youtube I’ve read about seasons being connected to each and hubby yelling “It’s her from season 2!” ceases from entering my thoughts hence I must ask dear readers that if you are following AHS, do you think the seasons are connected? if so, how?

After watching other guest actors in AHS I look forward to season 5, Hotel, especially since I get to see Lady Gaga take part of this show. Applause, applause, applause.

  1. I wanted to try watch this since I always love a good scare every once in awhile but never get to actually watch it. Reading your review made my mind! I’m taking my lil sis with me because I’m such a good sister.
